A woman’s perspective on agroecological practices

Here women are engaged in agricultural activities, because after the lands were flooded with saline water crop yield decreased, and people faced economic hardships.

As the men in household migrate to work in bricks kilns or the sea, we engage in agriculture to supplement household income and support our family. We cultivate the fields to cooperate with our husbands. Now we have to obey the law in the family, our women also have to work.

Communities face dual threats from climate change and destructive development. Local livelihood suffer from recurring disaster like cyclone and salinity instrusion.

Men engage in minimal agricultural activities at home as they primarily work outside to earn income. Men have very little land in our house. Men will stay in the market and earn, we will stay at home. Cultivating crops at home not only provides household consumption but also reduces market expenses.

This year i have cultivated vegetables such as spinach, eggplants, potatoes, I have many kinds, now I have pumpkins, long beans and okra.

Top down solutions often ignore lived experience of the disaster affected communities.

Sajida Foundation gave us beetroot seeds. We are raising money from 5 of us, we are buying seedlings with that money, and after planting, we see someone taking it, we share it with their family, we will all share what is needed. And we sell the remaining surplus, we share the money.

The snake vegetables that we are planting with Bitkabi are also our profit. Let’s say we eat them and sell them. But if they are not planted on time, they cannot be sold.

We waste our time on empty bit bread. After thinking about whether it will be easy, we are raising money ourselves, five of us.

We have given everything except chillies and we have given everything to the fields around us, and then we settle down in one place. Because we are farmers, we can only do one or two if that is our profit.

In my childhood, I saw that my father and mother, who are brothers, dig the soil with a spade, then they put a lot of manure in the house

…

I think I have a shop I said maybe I sent it to the market to sell it in front of the shop, and then not everyone has a shop, so

If someone has a male house, they might sell it. If someone has a male house, they might go out, then dig a hole in their house, if they want to buy it, then if they don’t sell the things in the house to people, they won’t be sold or if they have it, they might bring it to their father’s shop.

When they are not there, their father will take it and sell it. In this way, if someone doesn’t have a man, then that thing is wasted.

The pesticide that is from the shop is just given, it often causes diseases.

If you make your own pesticide and use it, it is most convenient. Insects also get affected that way.

No, for some reason, after applying the pesticide from the market, my fruit and tree are all ruined. If you only have money, it doesn’t work anymore.

These are necessary. It can be seen that I bought the seedlings with the money. After I plant them, I will need medicine, I will need fertilizer

If I can take any training from outside, we will be able to improve further in that field.
